Welcome to our website! We are a group of volunteers dedicated to improving the lives of domesticated animals. Most of us have homes on the East Cape of Baja California Sur but many "Amigos" are regular visitors or even tourists who make their visit extra special by helping the local animals. The following is a brief update of Amigos activities and upcoming events that is sent to our volunteers and supporters. For previous month's updates click here. January 2010 While 2009 brought us plenty of bad news it was also full of inspirational accounts of people pulling together to help those less fortunate. In many cases, shared hardships helped break down barriers as people found they could overcome challenges by working together. Still, we hope that 2010 will bring greater prosperity, joy, and compassion for those in need. Amigos had a good 2009 with over 115 spays and neuters. We received donations and had fundraisers that allowed us to help hundreds of animals with vaccinations, flea & tick preventative, and treatment for a myriad of issues large and small. As always, we tried to educate as we went along and at special events specifically designed to help the local population understand the importance treating all domesticated animals with kindness. The bake sale that Betty organized raised $3,325 pesos getting the new year off to a great start. She is now working on the February garage sale and we hope you will all contact her about donations and volunteering some time to preparing and running the sale (130-0340). Thank you, Betty! While the plight of domesticated animals in Baja improves every year, there are still many cats and dogs to be spayed/neutered and many people who are unable to afford the full cost of the procedure as well as basic pet needs like vaccinations and good food.
